I’ve been writing for the British media for a quarter of a century. I've probably lost track of much of it by now, but it includes reviews and features ranging from book reviews of fiction by Isabel Allende to comment pieces for the Guardian, Prospect, and Times Higher Education, feature essays for Aeon and History Today, and travel features for the Financial Times and Observer. I’ve also contributed comment pieces to a range of online media, including African Arguments, Culturico, The Wire and UnHerd: recent features have appeared in outlets including New Statesman, Perspective, Persuasion, TRT Afrika, and UnHerd.

I wrote over 50 op-eds and features regarding the Covid-19 pandemic and responses to it in print and online media, for publications including  African Arguments, Culturico, History Today, New Statesman, NewsAfrica, Prospect, the Sunday Express, and Times Higher Education. 

In addition, Toby Green worked closely with Collateral Global to produce a series of films on Daily Life in Post-Pandemic Senegal, directed by Senegalese journalist Mamadou Ndiaye; and recording a number of podcasts, principally with colleagues in the Global South. I wrote dozens of reviews for the Independent when it was in is heyday, and over the years have also written criticism for the Daily Telegraph, London Review of Books, History Today, Times Higher Education, and the TLS. I've reviewed work by an eclectic bunch of authors, among others, David Abulafia, Tariq Ali, Isabel Allende, William Dalrymple, Jared Diamond, the late Eduardo Galeano, Francisco Goldman, John Gray, and Charles C. Mann. I've also interviewed writers including Ma Jian, and the late WG Sebald (republished alongside an interview by the late Susan Sontag in the Journal of European Studies). Recent reviews I've written have come out in  the Daily Telegraph and the London Review of Books.
